The God Wars II web site requires a backend database for storing page hit statistics. At some near point in the future a database will also be used to host the new forums within the site.
Everyone but me is using Windows in one form or another, so unlike my previous attempts with the CVS to woo you away from the dark side, I will only be providing Windows instructions.
Download MySQL from MySQL.org. There are many many different versions to choose from, but I'll only be discussing version 4.1.18 which is mirrored here:
If you choose to download the Microsoft Installer file above then you will be prompted to "Run", "Save", or "Cancel" it. Please select "Run", and then again if you get a security warning.
After a momemnt the Setup Wizard will appear. Click "Next".
The rest of this manual assumes that the standard and default settings are followed, so select "Typical" and "Next".
Finally select "Install" to install MySQL.
Once MySQL is installed you will be asked to sign up with MySQL.com. It up to you, but this tutorial assumes you do not want any more marketing emails, so "Skip Sign-Up" and move on.
The next step is to configure and start up the MySQL server, so ensure that option is ticked and click "Finish".
